What the words on a file card mean

PROCESSING, UNSUPPORTED VARIANT, GEOMETRY INCOMPLETE and the other words you may see on a card or in the preview.

HEXOstudios uses the same few words for every format, on file cards and in the preview panel.

PROCESSING
HEXOstudios is reading the file, has it queued, or is trying again after a passing problem. It is the only state still in progress.
UNSUPPORTED VARIANT
The file uses a feature or version HEXOstudios cannot draw yet. It never means the file is damaged.
GEOMETRY INCOMPLETE
STEP files only: HEXOstudios processed the file but could not produce complete, usable geometry.
INCOMPLETE FILE
HEXOstudios found the file is damaged or cut short, for example a file of 0 bytes. Used only when the damage is proven.
ENCRYPTED FILE
An encrypted 3MF package. It cannot be shown without its owner’s key, and it is not damaged.
EMPTY MODEL
The file opens, but holds no shape to show.
TOO LARGE FOR THIS MAC
The file is fine, but it is over the size limit for one file, or needs more memory than this Mac can give one model.
NEEDS MORE MEMORY
STEP files only: the model needs more memory than this Mac can give one model. The preview shows how much.
PARTIAL PREVIEW
Shown with a model HEXOstudios drew that is not complete.
FILE OFFLINE
The drive the file is on is not connected. It is not a verdict on the file.
