The format converter built into HEXOstudios.

HEXOforge runs the conversion engine directly on your Mac. No file ever leaves your machine. Send a file from your library, choose the format, and a clean copy is forged.

ZERO BYTES UPLOADED
YOUR HARDWARE, YOUR FILES

One library. One click. A clean copy in the format you need.

01 · WHAT

A converter that lives in your library.

HEXOforge is the conversion workspace built into HEXOstudios. Pick a supported file in your library, send it to Forge, choose STL, OBJ or PLY, and Forge writes a clean mesh copy. Nothing to install, nothing to upload.

02 · WHY

Because printing runs on more than one format.

Slicers, printers and download sources don't share one container. A 3MF from one ecosystem, an AMF from a download, an OBJ from a sculpting app: the geometry is fine, the format isn't the one your workflow wants.

03 · THE PROBLEM

An incompatible file stops a print before it starts.

The usual answers are an online converter, where your file leaves the Mac, or a full mesh application for a five-second job. Both break the flow of a library that is supposed to keep everything in one place.

04 · THE FIT

Forge, then keep going.

Forge is a Pro capability inside HEXOstudios, next to Preview, Passport and Health. Send a file from the library, forge it, and the result files itself back into a Converted folder, logged, ready to preview or export like any other file.

What goes in. What comes out.

Only what the shipping engine does. Nothing more.

INPUT ONLY

3MF is read, never written. Forge doesn't produce 3MF.

NOT CONVERTED

STEP and USDZ. Both still import and preview in your library; Forge simply isn't offered for them.

GEOMETRY ONLY

Colours, materials and textures are not carried into the result, by design. Forge tells you before you forge a 3MF.

ON YOUR MAC

The app has no network access at all. Every conversion runs locally, inside the app.

500 MB

Per source file (AMF: 200 MB). Larger files are refused rather than half-converted.

ONE AT A TIME

One active conversion; anything else you send queues behind it and starts on its own.

LIVE PROGRESS

Phase, percentage, time left and memory while it runs. STOP at any point and the partial file is removed.

DAMAGED MODELS

A model with invalid geometry is refused instead of being written broken.

3MF UNITS

3MF units are normalised to millimetres and component transforms applied, so the copy is the size the original meant.

THE RESULT

Written as name_converted.ext into a Converted folder, added back to your library, logged, with a toast when it's done.

PRO

HEXOforge is part of HEXOstudios Pro.

One file, forged.

The real workflow, recorded in the app.

  1. 1. SENT FROM THE LIBRARY: A 3MF from your HEXOstudios library arrives in HEXOforge.
  2. 2. CHOOSE THE OUTPUT: STL, OBJ or PLY. For a 3MF, Forge says colours and materials won't carry.
  3. 3. FORGE: One click. The conversion starts on your Mac.
  4. 4. LIVE PROGRESS: Phase, percentage, time left and memory. STOP at any point. More files queue behind it.
  5. 5. FILED AND LOGGED: The converted .stl is finished, back in your library, and in the Conversion Log.

Converting 3D files on a Mac, answered.

How do I convert a 3MF file to STL on a Mac?

In HEXOstudios Pro, send the 3MF from your library to HEXOforge, choose STL and press Forge. A clean STL copy is written on your Mac and added back to your library; the original 3MF is left untouched.

Which formats can HEXOforge convert?

HEXOforge reads STL, OBJ, PLY, 3MF and AMF files and writes STL, OBJ or PLY: STL to OBJ or PLY, OBJ to STL or PLY, PLY to STL or OBJ, and 3MF or AMF to any of the three.

Are my files uploaded to convert them?

No. Every conversion runs on your Mac, inside HEXOstudios, and the app has no network access at all.

Do colours and materials carry over?

No. HEXOforge converts the geometry: colours, materials and textures are not carried into the result, and Forge tells you before you forge a 3MF.

Is there a file size limit?

Up to 500 MB per source file (200 MB for AMF). Larger files are refused rather than half-converted.

Can HEXOforge convert STEP or USDZ files?

No. STEP and USDZ files import and preview in your library, but HEXOforge isn’t offered for them.

Is HEXOforge free?

HEXOforge is part of HEXOstudios Pro: $24.99 once, no subscription, with a 14-day free Pro trial inside the app.

Part of HEXOstudios.

HEXOforge ships inside HEXOstudios Pro, alongside Preview, Passport, Health and the rest of the workflow.
